Yesterday, I met probably one of the most soft hearted people in our city which according to me, is doing an angel’s work. She single handedly opened and run a Safe House for vulnerable and abandoned babies here in Sea Point, Cape Town. Marilyn May, is a registered staff nurse which decided to care and look after these babies, providing temporary placement ensuring they get the care and love they deserve. Babies coming out of difficult circumstances land in the hands of Marilyn and her Day Supervisor and carer, Cynthia. They nurture these small, sometimes premature little lives back into health and look after them until they are found safe and secure homes to go to…
I spoke to her Assistant and Co-ordinator for projects, Elisha St Louis about the Home and how we as a company could assist them. But just to tell you a little bit more about the work that they do on a daily basis she told me the following:
“Atlantic Hope works tirelessly 24hrs a day 7 days a week to provide a loving and caring environment to babies that have been abandoned in Cape Town and surrounding areas. Many babies placed in their care are in desperate need of medical, nutrition and emotional care. Atlantic Hope was started in 2010 by a single nurse who discovered babies were being abandoned after birth and left to die such as abandoned buildings, vacant fields and public facilities e.g. train stations and public toilettes. To date Atlantic Hope has housed 20 babies and constantly need donations to enable them to continue to provide care and housing to these abandoned infants.”
This year November, La Petite Patisserie would love to help and assist them with a Charity Drive which we will call, “Hope through Cupcakes..”. Together with Marilyn and Elisha, we came up with a plan to sell cupcakes at a public market place on the 23rd of November, to reach a target in which they will have enough funds raised to assist them with staffing a night nurse and paying for necessities.
We will require of course a lot of help, and I thought it best to call on all my fellow Cake Decorators in Cape Town, and my students from the Academy to assist us in either baking, decorating and even pledging a donation for or on the day.
How can you help? You can assist by choosing one of the following options below:
We will have a Cupcake Decorating Day on the 22nd of November at our Training Academy (201a Blaauwberg rd, Table View, Cape Town). Please come and assist us with Decorating at least 12 cupcakes beautifully. (We will supply baked cupcakes and ingredients, but please bring R20 each)
Please bring your most beautifully decorated (12)cupcakes to our Academy (address above), and we will deliver them to Atlantic Hope Home.
Pledge your donation on their website by following the link http://www.atlantichope.co.za/
Bake for us! You can bake Cupcakes and bring them to the Academy to be decorated.
Help us on the 23rd of November at the V&A Waterfront, to sell some cupcakes!
Your help will be much appreciated!
Visit Atlantic Hope on this link http://www.atlantichope.co.za/ and do let us know how you will be able to contribute your time or money or skills this November…
